RMAI NEWS UPDATE

Good Afternoon!

I hope everyone had a fantastic holiday. I know everyone probably appreciated the time off and well deserved rest.

Now with 2023 officially underway, I wanted to send out to everyone our first batch of calendar updates as well as

some important schedule changes, so please take note:

CLASS SCHEDULE CHANGES

Beginning Monday January 9th, there are some slight schedule changes. Beginner Brazilian Jiujitsu will take place on Fridays 5:00pm, and the

Black Belt Only class will be from 6:30pm to 8:00pm with the exception on days where we have our Gup Graduation. For the time being, the BJJ class

will only be on Fridays until more people sign up for the program and we are able to recruit another instructor.

BLACK BELT CHEVRON EVALUATION

Will be held during the Black Belt Only time slot (6:30pm) on January 13th.

GUP TESTING CHANGES

In an effort to maximize ours and everyone else's valuable time, we've decided for the year of 2023 to run ALL of our Gup Testing on

Saturdays instead of Mondays. In the past we've cancelled Monday classes for testing, and people don't always get the memo and show

up to their normal class time, only to be turned away. Being that Saturdays are light in regards to attendance, we are now going to hold

the pre-exam portion of testing now during class times on Saturdays. Classes will technically be cancelled on those days, and anyone

forgetting to check email and showing up to classes will have to participate in with the test (however will not be promoted early). :)

RMAI SCHOOL TOURNAMENT

The RMAI In-School Tournament is BACK!!! Come try your skills in competition for the chance to win some Medals or TROPHIES!!

Date is Saturday March 4th, This event is open to everyone 2nd Dan and Below. Price for early registration will be $35. We will ALSO be bringing back...

....the CHALLENGE CUP!!

KARATE UNITY & BUNHAE JOURNEY Joint Seminar

In April we plan on hosting Chris Hanson from Karate Unity in Toronto, Ontario for our first Joint Seminar on everything related to

Bunhae/Bunkai/Cross Training with Boxing and Grappling and more. The dates are tentatively April 14 through 16, so save the date!

We have a lot of things planned for this seminar, and we will open it to the public, so once the event goes live, sign up quickly!

SOME NOTES ON 2023...

Last Year marked our 10th year as a studio, and it was certainly an interesting one, with things finally beginning to return to normal.

Class sizes grew again, people got serious again with their training, We were fortunate enough to see the promotion of a number of

black belts as well as two more Master Instructors. There are a number of different projects planned for this year, that I'm excited for

everyone to take part in. I also have a few ideas I have not discussed with anyone as of yet... hopefully soon. If there's anything you can think

of , or request... a class on a specific topic, or training in an area we do not normally cover, please send me your suggestions. The world of

Martial Arts is vast and seemingly endless... although we do a lot of different things at RMAI, we barely scratch the surface of what is out

there. Personally I love hosting seminars, whether taught by myself, or special guest instructors... I can think of quite a few I'd be willing

to reach out to and invite them for a weekend... As long as you all are on board. Anyway... those are my thoughts, let's get training, and

SMASH our goals for 2023. Happy New Year!
